Small Bathroom Design Ideas That Maximise Space

    25 July 2025

A small bathroom doesn't have to feel cramped. With the right design choices, even the most compact bathroom can feel spacious, functional and stylish. Here are our top tips from hundreds of Kent bathroom projects.

Replace the bath with a walk-in shower. A frameless glass shower enclosure with a wall-mounted rainfall showerhead opens up the room dramatically. If you must keep a bath, consider a shorter 1500mm bath or a shower-over-bath with a glass screen.

Wall-hung furniture is a game-changer. A wall-mounted vanity unit and WC create visible floor space underneath, making the room feel significantly larger. They also make cleaning much easier.

Use large-format tiles. Counter-intuitively, bigger tiles with fewer grout lines make small rooms feel bigger. We recommend 600x600mm or 600x1200mm tiles in light, neutral tones.

Recessed storage is essential. A tiled niche in the shower area and a mirrored cabinet above the basin provide storage without eating into floor space. We build these into every small bathroom we design.

Good lighting transforms small bathrooms. A combination of recessed ceiling spots, backlit mirrors and warm-toned LED strips creates depth and ambiance. Avoid a single central light — it creates harsh shadows.

At TEMBOK, we specialise in making small bathrooms work hard. Every design is created in 3D so you can see exactly how your new bathroom will look and function before we start work.
