    What Is Made-to-Measure Furniture?

Made-to-measure furniture is designed and built to your specific requirements — size, shape, material, finish and function. Unlike mass-produced furniture constrained by standard dimensions, every piece is created to fit your space perfectly and serve your exact needs.

This covers both freestanding and fitted furniture: dining tables sized for your room, sideboards that align with architectural features, console tables that fit narrow hallways, radiator covers that match skirting profiles, and any other piece that standard ranges cannot provide.

At TEMBOK, we combine traditional joinery techniques with modern materials and finishes to create furniture that is beautiful, functional and built to last generations. Our workshop in Kent produces everything from simple floating shelves to complex fitted libraries.

Whether you have a specific design in mind or need our help developing an idea, we work collaboratively to produce furniture that becomes a valued part of your home.

    Why This Matters

    Why Off-the-Shelf Furniture Disappoints

Mass-produced furniture is designed for the average room — but no room is average. Dining tables are too long or too short. Sideboards protrude past doorways. Bookcases are too tall for your ceiling or too shallow for your books. The compromise is always visible.

Standard furniture uses engineered boards, veneers over chipboard, and minimal joinery. These pieces look acceptable new but deteriorate quickly — edges chip, surfaces scratch, joints loosen, and finishes dull within a few years of normal use.

Finding furniture that matches your interior style, fits your space precisely and meets your functional requirements often means compromising on at least one of these factors. You settle for 'close enough' because perfect does not exist in a catalogue.

Made-to-measure eliminates all compromise. Every dimension is chosen for your room. Every material is selected for durability and beauty. Every joint is engineered to last. The furniture fits your home because it was designed for nothing else.

    Our Process

    How We Create Your Furniture

    1

    Design Discussion

We discuss your requirements — what you need, where it will go, how it will be used, and the aesthetic you want. We take measurements and bring material samples and inspiration.

    2

    Design & Quotation

We produce detailed drawings with dimensions, material specifications, finish options and a fixed-price quote. Complex pieces include 3D visualisations.

    3

    Timber & Material Selection

We source premium hardwoods, softwoods, veneers and specialist materials. Oak, walnut, ash, cherry, maple — selected for grain, colour and character.

    4

    Workshop Crafting

Your furniture is built using traditional joinery — mortise and tenon, dovetail, biscuit and dowel joints. Machine-cut for precision, hand-finished for quality.

    5

    Delivery & Installation

Freestanding pieces are delivered and positioned. Fitted pieces are installed on-site with precision scribing. All surfaces are inspected and any adjustments made.

    Expert Finishing

Hand-sanded, sealed with premium oils, waxes, lacquers or paints. Finishes that protect and enhance the natural beauty of the timber.
