Concrete Worktops in Kent

Bespoke concrete worktops cast to your template, sealed for kitchen use and finished in honed, polished or board-marked textures.

What's Included

Concrete Worktops — The Tembok Way

A concrete worktop is cast to the exact shape of your kitchen run, with sinks, drainers and edges formed as one surface.

  • Integral drainers & sinks
  • Honed or polished finish
  • Pigmented & GFRC options
  • Outdoor kitchen counters

Templating the cabinets before casting

The base units are fixed and levelled first, then a full-size template is made of the run, including walls that are out of true, hob and sink cut-outs and any overhang for stools.

Accuracy here matters more than with most worktops, because a cast top cannot be trimmed easily once cured.

Workshop casting, in-place casting or GFRC

Tops cast in the workshop are poured in moulds and finished under controlled conditions before being brought to site. In-place casting forms the top on the cabinets themselves, avoiding joints on long runs.

Glass fibre reinforced concrete, known as GFRC, can be cast thinner and lighter, which helps where carrying a heavy slab into the kitchen is difficult.

Sinks, drainers and the edge profile

An integral sink can be cast as part of the top, and drainer grooves formed in the surface. Edges can be square, eased or thickened at the front to look more substantial than the slab really is.

  • Integral cast sink or undermounted sink
  • Drainer grooves formed in the surface
  • Square, eased or thickened edge

Living with a concrete surface

Concrete is sealed to resist staining, but acids such as lemon juice and wine can mark it, and very hot pans can damage the sealer, so trivets are wise. Over time the surface develops a patina that many people like.

Heavy tops need carcasses strong enough to carry them, so cabinets may need extra support. Outdoor kitchens need a mix and sealer chosen for frost exposure.

Colour, aggregate and the look of the surface

Pigments added to the mix give anything from pale grey to charcoal or warmer tones, and the colour can vary slightly across a top, which is part of the material's character. Grinding the surface can expose the stone aggregate within the mix, while a trowelled finish keeps a smooth, uniform face.

Small samples are worth seeing in the kitchen's own light before the full run is cast, because concrete looks different under daylight and artificial lighting.

Factors in a cast worktop price

Weight, shape and detail drive the figure.

  • Length of the run and number of pieces
  • Workshop casting, in-place casting or GFRC
  • Integral sinks, drainers and cut-outs
  • Edge profile and thickness
  • Colour, aggregate and finish
  • Sealer type and carcass strengthening
  • Access to carry tops into the kitchen

FAQs

Concrete Worktops — frequently asked

Can a concrete worktop be repaired if it chips?

Small chips can usually be filled and resealed, and the patina that builds up over time tends to soften the look of repairs.

Do concrete worktops stain?

They are sealed to resist staining, but acidic spills such as lemon juice or wine can mark the surface if left.

Can you put hot pans on a concrete worktop?

It is best to use trivets, as very hot pans can damage the sealer.

What is GFRC?

Glass fibre reinforced concrete, a mix that can be cast thinner and lighter than standard concrete.

Can concrete worktops be used outdoors?

Yes, with a mix and sealer chosen for frost and weather exposure.
